Crush on a Day with Losang Samten | Tibetan Sand Mandala | Reno Photographer

Last weekend was very ...peaceful. I have been practicing yoga at the Buddhist Center and was fortunate to have met Dina who encouraged us to go upstairs and see the sand mandala being created by Tibetan artist, Venerable Lama Losang Samten. He is one of thirty people world-wide who are qualified to teach the intricate, symbolic sand mandalas. By appointment of the 14th Dalai Lama, he was instructed to share the sand mandala art form. He knows forty of these by memory. He was also generous to allow us all an opportunity to try crafting with sand.
It's beauty is about us--our own beauty, our fragility, our complexity, and impermanence. The piece will be dismantled a couple of months and taken to the river for a releasing ceremony.
Namaste.
The dimension that Losang can create with sand is remarkable.

Every marking and color has symbolic meaning.

The wonderfully welcoming APC, Matthew Fisher,  demonstrated how to light incense for our girls.
