Crush on Asphalt Socialites | Recording Session at Sierra Sonics | Reno, NV

Last month I had the opportunity to photograph the up and coming modern rock band, Asphalt Socialites, during the recording of their debut album at the Sierra Sonics Recording Studio in Reno, Nevada. The band has been recording in Reno and Chicago with music industry veteran, Bjorn Thorsrud at the engineering helm. Thorsrud is best known for his work with The Smashing Pumpkins.  Check out the link to stay up to date on when the mastered album will be released and follow the Asphalt Socialites on Facebook. Enjoy the following photo diary that captures one day in the life of their music journey...

Crush on Roasted Savory Pumpkin Seeds

Finding the best crunchable, munchable snacks that won't be the end to my already curvaceous waistline has become stop short of a hobby. The latest is roasted savory and spicy pumpkin seeds. I've made them with and without the shells, straight from the pumpkin and straight from the bulk bins at the local grocery store. Both are delicious!
shelled, raw, uncooked seeds tossed in seasoning and oil

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees
  • Scrape the seeds out of a pumpkin with as little of the pumpkin strands attached as possible. If you buy raw pumpkin seeds expect to pay anywhere between $4-$7 a pound. I've found them at all groceries stores that have a bulk DIY bin section. Try roasting one or two pounds at a time.
  • In a mixing bowl combine the following ingredients: olive oil (enough to just coat the seeds but don't drown them), salt, garlic powder, and cayenne. Careful with the cayenne. I love the kick but a little goes a long way.
  • Spread single layer onto a cookie sheet
  • Cook for 45 minutes on 300 degrees
  • Munch Time!

Crush on I Heart Faces Best Face of 2012 Photo Challenge

It's time for I Heart Faces Best Face of 2012 Photo Challenge.  90% of my images include a face, so I had plenty to reflect back upon. I thoroughly enjoyed reminiscing about my photo shoots and those shots of piercing eyes and beautiful faces. However, there is one image that I always return to. These two little girls are so confident in their manner. In the other frames, the girls had towels and their dollies with expressions of sugar. This one; this one is so pure that it catches a glimpse of rarely seen sides of either girl. Marz, on the left, is spunky and spit-fiery but rarely with a scowl. Her face shines a smile night and day. Ruby, on the right, typically is demure and delicate. She holds herself gently-- the orchid. This day they were feeling the bravado of a Stand By Me summer. They learned to swim with confidence, navigate the river, tackled their two-wheelers sans training wheels. They roamed the hills of their new home. In this one, their faces tell it all.
I would love to hear your thoughts and thanks for stopping by....
